The Arts have always stood beyond the politics, inspired nations and moved human emotions. Over the past decades people of reformed Russia and the United States have gotten close as never before. Even fighting on the same side during the World War I and World War II did not bring our nations so close together.

Through the initiative of The Russian Art Project sponsored by Boris Foxman, National Business and Accounting Consultants (NABC),Alley of Russian Poets, American Association of Russian Language, Culture and Education (AARCE), Ernst Neizvestny Studio, the ArtIndex, and with the support of Guy Mason Center, Friends of Guy Mason Inc, both prominent and promising Russian artists and collectors have united to exhibit a powerful collection of Russian art, to educate the public in the traditions of Russian fine art, and to promote the interest of the American collector and investor. Throughout a 2 day journey, Washingtonians will be able to study, get acquainted and acquire some of the greatest representatives of the Russian visual arts.

The Russian Arts Project, a local, emerging, nonprofit organization, is preparing a series of events that will showcase Russian art and culture to the American public. The Project's plan is to hold a series of events in the Washington DC area to educate the public about the traditions, in contemporary and ancient Russian fine art. Since this is an exciting moment in our cultures, with new artists, ripe with ideas and talent, this exposure toart will demonstrate the convergence of American and Russian cultures. Also the month of May, 2006 will have numerous events in the District of Columbia which are designed to bridge the cultures of two countries.

The Russian Art Project, as part of the 50,000Russian-speaking community of the Greater Washington DC area, is looking forward to making a positive contribution to the cultural development of the nation's capital through sharing of our culture,   art traditions, and community life. The first International Conference for the Preservation of Russian Language was held last year in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Sydney A. Katz, Mayor of the City of Gaithersburg, made a formal proclamation that June 12-15, 2005 should be called the Days of Russian Culture. The success and reception of this past event (people attended form many states and countries) has inspired us to plan another series of events this year- in Washington, D.C. proper.

We were excited to read that, together with the DC Commission on the Arts, your office considers the arts & culture as the second leading industry for the city behind tourism- "?generating an impressive $1.4 billion for the District's economy each year. (Executive Office of the Mayor newsletter November 2005 Volume 4 issue 23)

To introduce prominent and promising artists from Russia and neighboring countries to the American public and to educate the public about traditions in Russian art, we will make this exhibition accessible by the presenting it free to the public; and by donating funds to benefit to the worthy organizations listed here. Part of the proceeds of the auction will be set aside to benefit art programs for the DC Parks and Recreation Department, the 'Friends of Guy Mason', the Alley of Russian Poets (located at the Guy Mason Community Center) and the Capital Area Food Bank.

During the weekend of May 12th-May 13th, we are planning a major DC exhibition of Russian Arts event that will include a Preview, Auction, and Sale, held at Guy Mason Center. There will be of over250 works of art by contemporary Russian, Russian-America! n and other artists. In addition, there will be educational seminars on contemporary Russian art, and exposure to exquisite Russian music. The program will culminate with an auction of some of the art at a very special program. So save the dates. Exact event times and further venue information will be announced shortly.

The venue of the Guy Mason Center was selected because of several reasons: our ongoing relationship with the community in the past (the Alley of Russian Poets demonstrates our ongoing admiration for each others cultures), generosity and enthusiasm of the Center staff, the beauty and charm of the building itself, proximity to the Russian Embassy, and the Russian Cultural Center.

The Russian Arts Project, sponsored by the National Business &Accounting Consultants Corp. (NBAC), together with the DC Department of Parksand Recreation, the Friends of Guy Mason, and the participation of the Carnegie Mellon University Alumni of DC, and it's Fine Arts Network, as well as others (to be announced), plan to hold an art event, open to the public, free of charge.

Hope we'll see you at this worthwhile and enjoyable event.

Boris Foxman,
Founder/Program Director
The Russian Art Project
